The Higienópolis neighborhood is located in the central region of the city, very close to Avenida Paulista. It is considered an upscale neighborhood and has the eighth highest HDI in the city. It is a predominantly residential neighborhood, being one of the highest regions of the capital, creating beautiful views from almost all the buildings in the neighborhood. It is also known for being or having been the residence of many Brazilian artists and politicians, such as Jô Soares and the former president of Brazil Fernando Henrique Cardoso, among others. Higienópolis is also known for its large Jewish community.
The architecture of the neighborhood is also one of its strengths, as many of the buildings are based on classical French architecture. It is also possible to note the presence of old mansions, which were inhabited by Coffee Barons. Higienópolis’ location is also privileged because of its connection to important avenues in the central region of São Paulo, such as Avenida Paulista, Avenida Pacaembu, Minhocão and Avenida Dr. Arnaldo. The neighborhood counts with subway line 4-Yellow, with the Mackenzie-Higienópolis station.
